HTS RANKINGS: WEEK 6

Written by Site Administrator (Sam Houston St.) 55 Wednesday, October 01, 2008

1. USC:  The Trojans got rocked last week against Oregon State….this week they get the high powered Oregon Duck offense at the Coliseum.  USC has to  rebound in a solid fashion if they want a piece of the Pac-10 title and a chance to get back in the national picture.

2. Oregon:  The Ducks got back on track after the Boise State loss with a blowout win over Washington State…63-14.  This week will be the biggest challenge of the season for the Ducks.  They will need a stronger passing game and more physical defense to beat the Trojans.

 3. California:  The Golden Bears defeated Colorado State…42-7 last week.  The Bears get their biggest challenge of the season this week from Arizona State.  California will be without star running back Jahvid Best, in his place look for freshman Shane Vereen .  Kevin Riley needs to improve his production or Nate Longshore could be back in the Bear quarterback picture.

4. Arizona:  The Wildcats are 3 and 1 on the season with a conference win over UCLA, 31-10.  Their offense is beginning to fire on all cylinders and they should be solid this week against a Washington Husky defense allowing  507 yard per game.

5. Arizona State:  The Sun Devils are coming off a bye with a healthy Keegan Herring at running back.  Arizona State needs improvement in that running game to open up the passing lanes for quarterback Rudy Carpenter.  A running game and a little confidence will move this team up in the rankings.

6. Oregon State:  The Beavers threw the knockout punch and connected against the USC Trojans.  This week they travel to Salt Lake City and take on another ranked team in the Utah Utes.  Everyone is anxious to see if the Beavs can come through against another ranked team.

7. Stanford:  The Cardinal handed Washington it`s fifth loss of the season and  received solid offensive play, with a breakout game by running back Anthony Kimble…157 yards rushing and two TD`s.  This week Stanford travels to South Bend to tangle with the Irish.  It will take a stellar  performance from the Cardinal defense to get a win in this one.

8. UCLA:  This team has been hit by injuries and there isn`t a lot of depth.  The Bruins have a ways to go before they make a run for the conference championship and challenge their cross town rivals.  Washington State is coming to town….so the Bruins should get the win this week.

9. Washington:  When things get bad, they sometimes get very bad.  The Huskies are 0 and 5 and lost star quarterback, Jake Locker for the remainder of the season.  Arizona will be ready to exploit the Husky defense in the Desert.  Sorry Dawgs it may not get any better this week!

10. Washington State:    Cougar fans…hang in there, it will get better, but not this year.

Here`s hoping your team is a HotTicket this week!
