HTS Rankings Week 5

Written by Bob Grim (Texas St.) 51 Thursday, September 25, 2008

1.USC:  Next up Oregon State, last trip to Reeser Stadium, OSU 33-USC 31.

2. Oregon:  The Ducks lost to Boise State and may have found their spread option quarterback of the future, freshman Darron Thomas.  Thomas had three TD passes in the fourth quarter.

3. California:  The Golden Bears move to number three after a week of rest.

4.Arizona:  3 and 1 on the season with a conference win over UCLA, 31-10.  Maybe…just maybe… coach Mike Stoops has the Wildcats moving in the right direction.

5.Arizona State:  The Sun Devils move down after two consecutive losses.  When they find a running game, let`s hope Keagon Herring gets healthy soon, they will move back up the chart.

6.Oregon State:  The Beavers seem to be holding to form, start slow and build.  They had a nice victory last week against Hawaii, but the Trojans visit Corvallis next Thursday night.  It`s time for Mike Riley to break out the old speech, “it`s not the best team that wins…it`s the team that plays best that wins”.

7.Stanford:  Still building, this week the Cardinal travel to Husky Stadium and play a winless Washington team.  The Huskies have had two weeks to prepare.  Should Stanford win this game on the road, they move up next week.

8.UCLA:  This team has been hit  by injuries and there isn`t a lot of depth.  The Bruins have a ways to go before they make a run for the conference championship and challenge their cross town rivals.

9.Washington:  Thank goodness a week off… after suffering through the toughest opening schedule in the nation!  This week the Huskies host Stanford…should the Dawgs lose this one…. Folks in Husky land will start heading for the exits.

10.  Washington State:  The Cougs are really struggling under new head coach Paul Wulff.  Last week they lost two quarterbacks in a win over Portland State.  Cougar fans…hang in there, it will get better, but not this year.

Back to you next week.
