College Football Fans Yearn for the Commencement of the 2008-09 PAC-10 Season
Written by Aurae Beidler (Texas St.) 35 Monday, June 02, 2008

Although we try to adapt to life without college football, we, the devoted fans of PAC-10 College Football just can't do it, no matter how we try to fill the hole.

Life without PAC-10 college football is like _______ (fill-in the blank).

It’s spring. The sun is out, the birds are chirping and we all feel the urge to break from our prisons and dungeons, otherwise known as work, to enjoy the nice weather. Yet, something is missing and has been since the beginning of the year. Ah, yes. College football.

Of course, in Corvallis, we have the excitement and opportunity to watch our home team: the 2-time National Champion Oregon State Beavers Baseball team. The pinging sound of a home run, the cheering crowd, and the aroma of juicy hot dogs. Yet, hearing the overwhelming statistics proudly regurgitated by baseball commentators (not you Mike Parker, you at least make them interesting, mingled with movie quotes and all that jazz) just doesn’t appeal to us like hearing the total yards by the offense or how many sacks the opposing quarterback took. For some, baseball just doesn’t do it.

There’s softball. Same as baseball.

What about golf? Still nothing.

We miss that sound of colliding helmets, the gasp of air we take as the ball leaves the quarterbacks hand or the ouch! we all feel as he gets smashed to the ground. We miss the tradition of tailgating, face paint and sloppy team jerseys.

This time of year college football fans beg for any line of sports news on the upcoming season. Who’s going where? What potential did the spring game show? We want concrete news and we want it now!

Even though the season won’t begin for several months, it’s hype time already.

Ducks fans growl at those wearing orange and black, while those clever Beavers gloat in the last Civil War victory. It was a record breaker, you have to admit. Huskies followers look eastward, wondering how those Cougs are preparing with the new quarterback. Pete Carroll smiles, knowing his recruits are the best, while the players, coaches and fans of all nine other teams dream of beating that team with the annoying fight song playing continuously.

I tend to think of life without PAC-10 college football like a bear in hibernation. There are no other sports to interest me, so why not sleep?

SteavWednesday, June 04, 2008

PAC-10 college football is a happening thing in this area.

Life without PAC-10 college football is like nothing.
